OAK Racing could run Hondas in 2013

Increasing speculation is linking the French endurance racing team OAK Racing with a switch to the World Touring Car Championship for 2013, to run a two-car Honda satellite team.

According to a recent report in the Japanese Autosport magazine the team are evaluating moving into the WTCC in 2013. Honda have made no secret of their desire to see more than two Civic’s on the grid next season, with Tiago Monteiro and Gabriele Tarquini already confirmed to be driving for the JAS Motorsport works team.

OAK have been competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship in recent years, running both LMP1 and LMP2 cars. The team recently announced a switch to Honda Performance Development engines for its LMP1 programme, with Japanese racer Takuma Sato recently making an appearance with the team in the Fuji and Shanghai rounds at the wheel of an Oak/Pescarolo LMP1 car.

Even if Honda do not run a satellite team next season the Japanese manufacturer has already said that it is considering a third works entry, alongside Monteiro and Tarquini at JAS Motorsport.

Team Principal Sébastien Philippe has not commented on the rumours.
